Terms of use

The books on this site are in the public domain in the United States. Some texts carry an open licence from their source (for example, texts from Wikisource are licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0); each book’s page states its source and licence, and those licences take precedence over anything on this page. Public-domain status differs between countries; if you are outside the United States, please check the law where you live before reusing a text.

Terms of sale (print-on-demand)

Every printed volume from ClassicBooksPress.com is individually manufactured when you order it, by our print partner Lulu Press, Inc.

  1. Price. The price shown before checkout is: printing cost (calculated by Lulu from the page count and format) + a $1.98 platform handling fee + shipping (calculated by Lulu for your address and chosen service) + any applicable tax. Nothing is added afterwards.
  2. Final sale. Because each book is printed on demand exclusively for you, all sales are final. We cannot accept returns, cancellations or exchanges once the order has been sent to the print facility.
  3. Defects and shipping damage. If your book arrives physically damaged, misbound or with a major printing defect, contact us within 14 days of receipt with photos of the issue. We will gladly order a replacement copy at no cost to you.
  4. Delivery. Printing usually takes 3–5 business days, plus the transit time of the shipping service you choose. Delivery dates are estimates from the carrier.
  5. Where we ship. At present we ship to the United States only.

Privacy policy

Reading. We do not have accounts and we do not track you. Your reading progress, bookshelf, notes and display preferences are stored only in your own browser (local storage). They never leave your device unless you export them yourself. We use no advertising or analytics cookies. Our hosting and payment providers (Cloudflare, Stripe) may set strictly necessary security cookies.

Orders. When you order a printed book we collect your name, shipping address, email address and phone number (carriers require a phone number). We use them only to produce, ship and support your order.

Who receives your data. Only what is needed to fulfil the order: Lulu Press, Inc. (printing and shipping), the shipping carrier (for example USPS, UPS or FedEx) and our payment processor, Stripe (card details go directly to Stripe; we never see them). These providers may process data in the United States.

Retention. Order records are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires (generally up to seven years), then deleted.

Your rights. You can ask us at any time what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it where the law allows, by writing to hello@classicbookspress.com. Residents of California and the EEA/UK have the rights given by the CCPA and GDPR, and we honour them for everyone.
